U.S. SENATE News:

HATCH — U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) traveled Thursday to Hatch and Truth or Consequences to highlight Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) projects secured in the Southern parts of the state.

As a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Luján visited Hatch Valley Schools to celebrate the $200,000 CDS funding secured to construct an Animal Science Facility. In Truth or Consequences, Luján toured the New Mexico State Veterans Home and new residences under construction.

Last December, Luján delivered more than $273 million in investments for 146 local projects across New Mexico through the Omnibus Spending Bill that President Biden signed into law.

For New Mexico, Luján and the New Mexico Congressional Delegation secured a combined $4 million for statewide agricultural projects, including the Hatch Valley Public Schools investment. This legislation also provides funding for the VA State Veterans Home Construction Grant Program, VA medical care including rural health and the caregivers program, and funding to fully implement the PACT Act which expands eligibility for health care services and benefits to veterans with conditions related to toxic exposure during their service.

“Today’s events in Hatch and Truth or Consequences highlighted how federal support can help benefit all New Mexicans, from students to veterans,” Luján said. “For New Mexico’s agricultural-centered communities, I’m excited to see how the funding secured for the construction of the Animal Science Facility will support students, the community, and the next generation of farmers, as well as the construction of the new Veterans Home Facility to provide new, updated residences to help support the health and wellbeing of our veterans.”
