STATE News:

This week, U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.) held a series of events across Northern New Mexico to discuss Republican cuts to health care, highlight federal funding secured for local communities, and meet with local leaders.

“Republicans in Congress have created a health care crisis, leaving millions of Americans paying more for care or losing coverage altogether. Combined with rising grocery prices, these challenges are hitting New Mexicans hard. I had the opportunity to visit communities across Northern New Mexico to bring together local leaders, discuss solutions to the issues they face, and highlight the federal dollars I am delivering back home,” Luján said. “Hearing directly from New Mexicans is essential to delivering results, and I will continue working to improve the lives of our families, children, and seniors.”

In Los Alamos, Luján visited the Los Alamos Medical Center to meet with medical leaders and discuss Republicans’ refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits and their drastic cuts to Medicaid and Medicare. During the visit, Luján heard directly from hospital leadership about their priorities and discussed efforts to lower health care costs, extend the ACA tax credits, and help New Mexico families.

In Taos, Luján visited Rocky Mountain Youth Corps to tour the construction of the new workforce development training facility and highlight federal funding he secured to make the project possible. Luján also outlined his ongoing efforts to secure additional federal resources, despite President Trump’s budget cuts, to support Rocky Mountain Youth Corps’ mission of serving young people and expanding job training opportunities across Northern New Mexico.

In Taos, Luján sat down with newly elected Mayor Dan Barrone and the newly elected Taos Councilors to discuss priorities for the Town of Taos. During the meeting, Luján highlighted legislative efforts and federal funding secured to support the community.
