COUNTY News:
To ensure the safety of the traveling public and to facilitate the construction of a retaining wall for the Urban Trail Phase II, Los Alamos County Public Works Department announced that a segment of Canyon Road will be closed to through vehicular traffic between the Jewish Center and 300 feet west of 15th Street (see above map).
Work will start at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24 and continue through Monday, June 3.
The Los Alamos Nature Center (PEEC), Canyoncito Montessori School, The United Church, and the Jewish Center will remain accessible from Central Avenue. The Pueblo Canyon Trail Loop Trailhead will remain accessible from 15th Street. Canyon Road will remain open to bicycle and pedestrian traffic during this closure.
The detour for vehicular traffic will be via Central Avenue to 15th Street in both directions (See above map).
In coordination with the developer for the Canada Bonita Development, the Public Works project manager indicated that this closure may be extended an additional week to facilitate utility installations. The public will be notified of any changes to the duration of this closure through a subsequent press release.
Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to use caution around construction activities and avoid entering the work zones. Construction hours are planned from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be necessary if construction activities during the week are impacted by weather.
All questions, concerns, or special access needs should be sent to the Public Works Department at lacpw@lacnm.us or call 505.662.8150. Public Works thanks residents and businesses in advance for their cooperation and patience.
