If you have passed Sullivan Field lately, you may have heard or seen the Topper Band working on formations, or noticed that football practice has started. A school supply list is on home fridges all around town. This part of the summer must be getting us ready for Back-to-School. There have been errands to run, and perhaps a last family trip has you out of town for at least a weekend.
But wait a minute! Who are those folks sitting around tables and enjoying a delicious breakfast and great conversation while the students return to classrooms? Welcome to the Los Alamos Public School’s Retired Employees group. Membership is open to every former Los Alamos Public Schools employee.
The group is noted for not charging dues or having any meetings. Remembering the mornings they had to be at work, the group now have a get together breakfast mid-morning on the first day of school. It’s a wonderful chance to congratulate new retirees, honor past members who are no longer with us and tell great tales.
This year’s NOT-Back-To-School breakfast is 9:30 a.m., Aug. 16 in Kelly Hall at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. Breakfast burritos (full or half, sausage or vegetarian, or in gluten-free bowls) are the main dish with fresh fruit, scones, and multiple beverages filling our plates. Cost is $15.
