Secretary Of State’s Office Will Limit In-Person Services In Response To COVID-19 Public Health Emergency

Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver

STATE News:

SANTA FE – Following Gov. Lujan Grisham’s declaration of a public health emergency last week due to reported COVID-19 cases in New Mexico, the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office will until further notice suspend all in-person services with the exception of in-person activities related to public financing, candidate filing, and apostilles, which will require immediate processing.

All other services the Office provides will be available online or by telephone. This suspension of in-person services applies to both the Secretary of State’s Elections Division and the Business Services Division.

We encourage all customers to utilize our online resources for filing and submitting documents.

“My leadership staff and I have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation in New Mexico and are appropriately planning to respond to it in a way that protects my staff and the public, while also continuing to deliver the important daily services my Office provides,” Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver said. “Though I know these changes will cause some inconvenience, this is a productive and proactive response to the current challenges faced by the COVID-19 virus in order to limit its potential community spread. I encourage the public to abide by all the best practices being recommended by public health officials to thwart the spread of this virus in our state and nation.”

With the exception of those services previously noted, there will be no further face-to-face processing at the Secretary of State’s Office for the time being, and if a customer comes to the office to drop off prepared paperwork, the final documentation will be mailed to the customer after completion.

Sec. Toulouse Oliver encourages the public to utilize the New Mexico Department of Health for the most accurate information about COVID-19 going forward. The DOH has established a call center to address questions from the public. If you have questions regarding COVID-19 or if you have concerns that you may have been exposed to the virus, call 1.800.600.3453. The hotline is available 24/7.
