Science On Tap: Learn About Magnets Tonight

LACDC News:

Interested in magnetism? Join us to learn more at Science On Tap, at 5:30 p.m. today at UnQuarked Wine Bar, 145 Central Park Square.

Ross McDonald, with the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory’s Pulsed Field Facility at Los Alamos, will talk about the motivation for using high magnetic fields for materials research. With applications ranging from trying to understand high temperature superconductivity to learning fundamental information about metals, he’ll cover the challenges and advantages of working with these incredibly strong fields. He may even bring a demonstration or two to play with.

Science On Tap is sponsored by the Los Alamos Creative District and hosted by the Bradbury Science Museum. The On Tap series begins each evening with an informal 10-15 minute lecture followed by a lively group discussion. All ages are welcome! On Tap is a way for people to get out and about in the community, learn something new, and meet people with similar interests. The “On Tap” series happens twice a month. The discussions are supported by Bradbury Science Museum, Fuller Lodge Art Center, Los Alamos Historical Society and PEEC at The Nature Center.
