The community is invited to join the Bradbury Science Museum and the Los Alamos Creative District for Science On Tap at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at projectY cowork, 150 Central Park Square.
This “On Tap” features a conversation with Daniel Trugman, a Feynman Postdoctoral Fellow with the Lab’s Earth and Environmental Sciences Division.
In the United States, earthquakes are the most frequent natural disaster. While the U.S. experiences hundreds of thousands of earthquakes annually, fewer than .01 percent of them are considered “significant” (having a magnitude greater than 7.5, causing over $1 million in damage, or 10 or more deaths), and so most people are blissfully unaware of the thousands of tiny tremors occurring far beneath our feet.
At Los Alamos, Trugman is studying these tiny tremors to learn how earthquakes get started, how earthquake ruptures evolve with time, and what the future holds for earthquake forecasting.
Science On Tap is sponsored by the Los Alamos Creative District and hosted by the Bradbury Science Museum. The “On Tap” series begins each evening with an informal 10-15 minute lecture followed by a lively group discussion. All ages are welcome! “On Tap” is a way for people to get out and about in the community, learn something new, and meet people with similar interests.
The “On Tap” series happens twice a month. The discussions are supported by Bradbury Science Museum, Los Alamos Arts Council/Fuller Lodge Art Center, Los Alamos Historical Society and PEEC at The Nature Center.
Registration for this event is not required. Admission is free. UnQuarked Wine Room by Sirphey will be offering a wide selection of wines at this event.
