Scenes From Appreciation Parade For Local Grocery Workers

Los Alamos neighbors Jennifer Neil and Barbara Barber gather a group together to participate in a parade this morning to thank grocery store workers at Smith’s Marketplace, Los Alamos Co+Op Market and Smith’s in White Rock. ‘For social distancing we made it a car parade,’ Neil told the Los Alamos Daily Post. ‘We really want to thank these workers who are keeping things going for all of us … and we encourage people to buy gift cards for them’ Neil is a counselor at Los Alamos Middle School and Barber is a retired special needs teacher. Neil said they really appreciate the Los Alamos Hillstompers who made the parade special and fun. Neil also said the group is planning more special events to thank healthcare workers at Los Alamos Medical Center as well as other businesses. Neil and Barber invite the community to join their Facebook page Social Distancing Spirit Week, which they started a week ago and now has more than 1,500 members around the world, Neil said, adding that they present a new theme each day to help people have a little fun during this challenging time.
