Staff Report:
The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) reported this afternoon that a plane crashed just before 1:24 p.m. today, Dec. 31, 2024, at the Los Alamos County Airport.
Los Alamos Deputy Police Chief James Rodriguez said that according to the pilot, he took off from Los Alamos Airport, circled the area a few times, and returned to the airport.
While attempting to land, a crosswind caught the plane and pushed it off the runway, causing it to come to rest nose down at the east end of the runway (about 10 feet from the cliff’s edge).
Fortunately, there were no injuries to the pilot, Rodriguez said.
