With the drop of the puck the Los Alamos Hockey Association 12u team kicked off the Holiday Classic with a loss to the Santa Fe Capitals. Dimitri Lawrence of Los Alamos rallied off a breakaway to put Los Alamos in the lead in the opening minutes with Los Alamos initially controlling play, keeping the puck in the Capital zone. Lawrence would put in 2 more goals along with a breakaway goal for Oliver Burrows with strong defensive play by Jennifer Kroupa and several saves by goalie Brecken Hanson. However, a sturdy Capital defense anchored by goalie Hugh Goldberg with 26 saves, would prove insurmountable for the Los Alamos offense. The Capitals took a commanding lead with goals scored by Emilio Roybal, Nika Knoll, Greg Bobick and Jonathan Strieker with a final score of 7-4. The Holiday classic started Thursday and runs through Dec. 30 at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink. Age groups 12 and younger are represented on more than 25 teams from Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Arizona and Texas.
