NNMC News:

  • Newly revitalized center will provide academic and personal support to Native American students

ESPAÑOLA — Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) welcomes the community to the Grand Reopening of the American Indian Student Center, 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 in the Española Administration Building Rotunda.

The American Indian Student Center (AISC) addresses the unique educational needs of Native American students, providing academic and personal support to enter and be successful in college. The AISC works with the College community to ensure cultural sensitivity; promote partnerships with the tribes to meet educational needs of their community; seek outside resources for the benefit of students; and ensure that American Indian students receive services on campus that will help them be successful in college and in their career.

The Northern community is proud to build on AISC’s decades of service to Native students at Northern and its partnership with the Northern Pueblos Institute at the Center on campus.

“By continuing to provide a center for our Indigenous populations on campus, this makes a statement that we are invested in their future and higher educational experiences,” AISC’s new director Nathana Bird stated. “Being in the heart of Pueblo Country, here in Española, we must continuously show up for our Indigenous students. This center is a resource for them.”
