Santa Fe Jewish Film Festival To Screen ‘Four Winters’ In Commemoration Of Holocaust Remembrance & Heroism Day

Santa Fe Jewish Film Festival News:

The Santa Fe Jewish Film Festival has announced its screening of Four Winters in commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance and Heroism Day. This award-winning documentary tells the remarkable story of the Jewish partisans, many who were barely in their teens, who fought back against the Nazis during WW II. The film will be shown 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5 at CCA in Santa Fe, and tickets are complimentary (although required).

Against extraordinary odds, more than 25,000 Jewish partisans courageously fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators from deep within the forests of WW II’s Belarus, Ukraine and Eastern Europe. The last surviving partisans relive their journey in Four Winters, which the Santa Fe Jewish Film Festival is screening in commemoration of Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day.

Torn from their families by the ravages of Hitler’s armies, many barely in their teens, these partisans (men and women) escaped into the forests, banding together in partisan brigades; engaging in treacherous acts of sabotage, blowing up trains, burning electric stations, and attacking armed enemy headquarters. Director Julia Mintz shines a spotlight on their transformation from young innocents raised in closely knit Jewish communities and families, to becoming fierce partisan soldiers with enduring hope, grit, magnificent courage, and deep humanity.

Featuring the photography of Faye Schulman, partisan photographer clad in her signature leopard coat, and through a fusion of inspiring and powerful first-person interviews with stunning archival footage, Four Winters uncovers secrets held for lifetimes, revealing a heartfelt narrative of heroism, determination and resilience.
