Santa Fe Community College Announces Information Sessions About Accelerated Medical Assistant Program

SANTA FE — Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) announces its Medical Assisting Program, which will have a series of information sessions about the college’s new Accelerated Medical Assisting Certificate program Nov. 7, 9 and 10 in Room the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center at 6401 Richards Ave.

Anyone can drop into the sessions at any time to get one-on-one information from representatives of the Medical Assisting program. The accelerated program takes only 18 weeks to complete.

The information session open hours are:

  • Tuesday, November 7
    11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    3 to 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 9
    12 noon to 2 p.m.

    4 to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, November 10
    9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SFCC Director of Medical Assisting Jessica Balladares said, “The accelerated program can quickly prepare students for a rewarding career working in a physician’s office or other health care settings. Courses are sequenced to build skill level and prepare students for a career in the growing medical field.”

The certificate is accelerated, eligible for financial aid, offered in both Fall and Spring semesters. It includes a practicum in a doctor’s office or hospital and National Certification tests. The certificate is embedded in the Medical Assisting associate degree.

Medical assistants earn an annual median salary of $37,190. Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 18 percent by 2030, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
