SFAS News:

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter, along with Modelo Especial, is providing a helping hand to veterans who would like a furry friend.

The Modelo Especial “Pets for Vets” program provides fee-waived adoptions for veterans and they will also receive six training classes provided by the shelter. Studies have shown that pets can help reduce the symptoms of PTSD including depression and anxiety.

“It feels good to know these animals and people can go on and help each other,” said Murad Kirdar, the shelter’s public information officer. “Vets have provided our country an incredible service and we are so thankful to Modelo Especial for stepping up for a second year by funding this important program.”

The program waives the adoption fee on adult dogs and also includes enrollment in one of the shelter’s basic dog training courses.

“We’re thrilled this partnership goes beyond just a donation contribution thanks to Modelo’s dedication to raising awareness for our service members,” Kirdar said.

The program will honor ten veterans with the fee-waived adoption and training classes.

In addition to this program, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter offers all veterans 50% off adoptions throughout the year.

In order to participate in the program, you will have to show a valid Military ID or DD214. Visit the shelter or their website for more information.
