Same Sex Couple Files Suit Against Los Alamos County Clerk

A Los Alamos same sex couple denied a marriage license Tuesday, Aug. 27 has taken court action against Los Alamos County Clerk Sharon Stover.

Attorney John Day of Egolf + Ferlic + Day law firm in Santa Fe told the Los Alamos Daily Post that he is representing Janet Newton and Maria Thibodeau in the matter.

“We filed a petition for a writ of mandamus in District Court requesting that Judge Sheri Raphaelson order the Los Alamos County Clerk to issue a marriage license consistent with what is being done in other counties such as Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos and Dona Ana,” Day said.

Day practices in the areas of criminal defense including white collar defense, all felonies and misdemeanors, and national security clearance matters; civil litigation including serious injury and wrongful death cases; and government misconduct/civil rights cases.
