Allan Saenz, co-owner with Sammi Owens, of SALA Los Alamos Event Center, in the former Reel Deal Theater building, spoke to the Rotary Club of Los Alamos April 11 about the upcoming premiere of Oppenheimer After Trinity.

The world premiere will be open exclusively to SALA members Saturday, April 22, J. Robert Oppenheimer’s birthday, with producer Larry Sheffield giving a presentation before the showing and answering questions after the feature.

This world premiere is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. with the film beginning at 7:15 p.m., and free to SALA members. Bathtub Row will provide beverages.

An additional showing will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23. Sheffield will speak after the film. SALA members are free; general admission is $12.

Oppenheimer After Trinity “explores events that took place immediately after the testing of the world’s first atomic bomb in July 1945”. The film “tells the story of what really transpired in the New Mexico desert following the test and addresses events that caused a course of action that is still debated today.” The film uses rare film and photo footage and uses Oppenheimer’s written and spoken words to tell the story from his very personal perspective. Oppenheimer’s grandson also is featured.

The events will benefit the Los Alamos Historical Society, the J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee, and The Oppenheimer Project.
