SALA Event Center To Host Screening Of ‘Mississippi Speed Record: An Epic Adventure’ Thursday Dec. 11

COMMUNITY News:

An ultra-endurance team called Mississippi Speed Record (MSR) made history and entered the Guinness World Record by traversing the entire length of the Mississippi River. Their achievement was documented in the film, “Mississippi Speed Record: An Epic Adventure”, which will be screened at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at SALA Event Center.

In addition to the screening, MSR canoeist Judson Steinback will be at SALA to introduce the movie, answer questions and sign autographs. Admission is $10. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at sala.losalamos.com.

MSR paddled the entire Mississippi River in 16 days, 20 hours and 16 minutes. The team was made up of four men who paddled around the clock  from the headwaters in Minnesota to the mouth in Louisiana, breaking through the ice on Lake Winnibigoshish, shooting the rapids in St. Louis, portaging around dams in the middle of the night, dodging 6-foot bow waves of barges and taking turns sleeping in the canoe.

The film also showcases the stalwart efforts of the MSR support crew on land and in the escort boats, and how they worked together to overcome physical and mental exhaustion. Spectacular photography by film studio Wilderness Mindset highlights the incredible wilderness, dangers, and challenges of the river.
