Ryan Tatro is a trailing spouse who followed his wife to town in 2005 when she went to work for Los Alamos National Laboratory.

He is making impacts in his work at Enterprise Bank & Trust where he manages a large portfolio of commercial clients and in his volunteer work throughout the community.

“I grew up in the Seattle area and moved to Boulder, Colo., after high school. After gaining some credits at a community college, and waiting to become eligible for in state tuition, I attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins,” Tatro said. “There, I received my degree in economics in 2005 and was invited to be a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Honor Society.”

Tatro explained that his wife graduated from the Colorado School of Mines also in 2005 and the couple moved to Los Alamos where she began her work at the lab.

“Within a week of moving to town, LANB, now Enterprise Bank & Trust, offered me a position as the TCC stock representative,” he said. “I worked my way up the commercial loan department to become a vice president relationship manager. Over the years I also have held the positions of loan assistant, credit analyst and portfolio manager.”

Enterprise Market President Liddie Martinez spoke about what she believes makes Tatro so effective on the job.

“I first met Ryan four years ago when I joined the bank as Market President. Ryan and I share a passion for community development and over the years have fine-tuned a strategy that features small business advocacy and investment of capital, talent and volunteerism,” Martinez said. “ Ryan is an expert in his field and very focused on giving back in meaningful ways. This has always been an essential element for a thriving community and a cornerstone in guiding people to a lifetime of financial success.”

What does Tatro like best about his work at Enterprise?

“Working with business owners within the community to start and grow their business, providing needed products and services to the community and lab is very rewarding,” he said. “It’s more than just providing a loan, it’s a partnership. I really enjoy learning about their aspirations, providing insight as to what I have seen work, and finding the best financial solutions for their specific situation, whether that be loans, fraud protection products, automation capabilities, or a number of other options.”

Tatro also is immersed in community service.

“I volunteer in the community for many reasons. This is my family’s home and we enjoy many aspects of living here,” he said. “It’s important to me that I give back and do my part to keep Los Alamos a wonderful place to raise a family. Plus, it’s a great way to meet likeminded people, I learn more about our town, and it’s fun!”

Tatro is a graduate of the 2018-2019 Leadership Los Alamos, which he calls “the best class ever” and through that organization he co-founded 100 Men Who Care Los Alamos.

“As part of a leadership project, together with a team of seven Leadership Los Alamos classmates we identified an opportunity to bring together a group of charitable individuals. Our mission is to support local charities and non-profit organizations that are dedicated to serve and make a difference in our community. Together, we dramatically multiply our individual impact by supporting under-resourced entities.”

Tatro explained that members can nominate their favorite local charities, hear directly from the charity about how the funds will be used, and pull their funds together to make the largest impact possible.

“One of my favorite parts is having the charity organization come back to tell us about how our funds impacted their organization on the community,” he said.

County Councilor David Izraelevitz participated in the Leadership Los Alamos class of 2018-2019 with Tatro and is a co-founder of 100 Men Who Care Los Alamos.

“Ryan and I met during Leadership Los Alamos, and he was instrumental in starting a 100 Men Who Care program as the capstone project for several of us in the LLA program,” Izraelevitz said. “As a banker, we immediately crowned him our ‘money man’ and he has made sure that we always did everything by the book. The 100 Men Who Care program has raised over $15k for Los Alamos charities and is just one example of Ryan’s community commitment and impact. He’s a great guy, and we all look forward to restarting the program after this pandemic is over.”

The first local non-profit board position Tatro served on was the Los Alamos Hockey Association (LAHA). A family friend’s term on the board was expiring and they were looking for new members, he said.

“I led a fundraising campaign for LAHA, which was very successful,” Tatro said. “Players sold raffle tickets in town and at games. I worked with the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Marriott to secure tickets and a night’s stay for our grand prize. I learned a lot on the LAHA board and met a lot of great people.”

Tatro also serves on the Los Alamos Housing Partnership (LAHP) Homebuyer Assistance Program Committee and Home Renewal Program Committee.

“LAHP is the program manager for the Los Alamos County Home Renewal Program and Homebuyer Assistance Program,” he said. “I have been a member of both program committees that review applications from participants since they were formed.”

The Homebuyer Assistance Program has helped many income qualified individuals and families become homeowners. Participants receive a non-amortizing down payment loan with deferred payment until they no longer occupy the home. The majority of participants include schoolteachers or counselors, self-employed individuals, and those in the retail and service industry.

“Or in other words, those individuals who maintain high level community support and keep much desired small business in our community, which makes our hometown such a wonderful place to live,” Tatro said. “As a member of the committee I am fortunate enough to see how impactful this program is on our community.”

The Home Renewal Program aids those who need to improve their homes to meet efficiency and safety standards.

“The LAHP does a wonderful job of inspecting applicants’ homes with them, identifying safety issues, identifying contractors, and staying on top of the project start to finish,” he said. “This program has helped many, including the elderly, in maintaining a quality of life in their homes.”

LAHP Executive Director Steven Brugger commended Tatro for his contributions to the Loan Review Committee.

“We are very fortunate to have Ryan Tatro on our Loan Review Committee, which evaluates all the requests made under both the County Home Renewal Program and the Homebuyer Assistance Program,” Brugger said. “Ryan’s expertise in lending is highly valued on our Committee, and his level of commitment and engaging personality are much appreciated by all of us.”

Enterprise Bank & Trust is a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
