Republican Party of Los Alamos

Dear Friends:

Please mark your calendars for our Pre-Primary Convention at 9 a.m. Jan. 24, 2026, at Fuller Lodge. We will elect nine delegates from Los Alamos to participate in the Republican Party of New Mexico’s State Preprimary Convention. This will be held on March 7, 2026 in Ruidoso, and our delegates will have an opportunity to hear from and vote on statewide candidates for this year’s election.

As of today, we have one candidate for Congressional District 3, NM House Representative Martin Zamora, on our agenda for Jan. 24. All candidates are invited to attend, and I hope we will have more who will join us.

Our official call has been submitted with this newsletter.

In 2026, Los Alamos County Councilor David Reagor will host Community Town hall meetings on the 3rd Thursday of the month when we do not have a scheduled Central Committee meeting. These Town hall meetings will be open to the public and focus on important local topics. So far, we have reserved UNM-LA, Room 505 Jeanette Wallace Hall at 6 p.m. on March 19 and May 21 for Councilor David Reagor’s Town hall meetings.

We will continue to meet bi-monthly at Open Door Bible Church (2101 Trinity Drive Ste. A-2) on the 3rd Thursday of the month for our Central Committee meetings. Mark your calendars for 6 p. on Feb. 19, April 16, June 18, Aug. 20, Oct. 15, and Dec. 17/Christmas party. All registered Republicans are invited to attend.

My personal and brief response to our County’s reflection on 2025.

Gross receipts tax increase was touted as a “key accomplishment” despite opposition from the LANL Director Dr. Mason, 33 small business owners, and the majority of public comments.  Does raising the cost of living for everyone, including residents on a low and fixed income, ensure that we can have “nice things and a thriving community”?

The County’s sale of A-8-a for a low income apartment complex at $7.5M appeared to pay back the Developers for the property purchase of $5.5M. Our County claims that this helps the “missing middle” when in fact, potential tenants who were counting on affordable rent were turned away due to their mid-level income, above the 45% AMI threshold. Recently, one of my patients told me that he is being forced out of these apartments because he makes too much.  As many others, he can no longer afford to live in Los Alamos.

New MRA and Retail LEDA programs. My concern about both is that they potentially empower our local government to pick winners and losers. Instead of the free market choosing in which businesses and projects succeed, government favoritism often squanders public resources and leaves taxpayers on the hook for failures. Already, there are documented examples of Los Alamos County’s inconsistent and unfair application process for public funds.

It is up to us, the citizens, to demand transparency and hold our County Council accountable!

See you soon,
