Dear Friends:
We had a wonderful time with NM Rep. (District 63) and NM CD-3 Candidate Martin Zamora on March 28.
According to the most recent National Community Survey in Los Alamos County, over 97 percent of residents would like local businesses, fiscal stewardship, and communication and engagement to be prioritized in our community. However, the lowest performing areas continue to be the vibrancy of downtown/commercial areas, cost of living, shopping opportunities, and overall quality and variety of business and service establishments.
Indeed, we still see vacant storefronts all over town as well as increasing property tax and utility bills. Sadly, the cost of living is forcing our middle class out of Los Alamos. Community engagement often amounts to 3-minute public comments that are largely ignored. Decisions impacting our local entrepreneurs are made behind closed doors with County staff, away from public scrutiny and direct input from stakeholders.
Right after gross receipts tax rates were increased, Council moved forward on multi-million dollar spending projects and approved big salary raises for both County staff and future Councilors.
A long-time resident told me recently that he would like to support a “No Incumbents” campaign and wanted yard signs with this message. If we want to see positive changes, we must elect new faces and voices to our Council. Please support our 2026 Council Candidates: Jason Chappel and Eric Stromberg. Both offer a fresh perspective and have a strong commitment to integrity, accountability, and the priorities of our community.
The Republican Party of New Mexico has announced all qualified Republican candidates ahead of the primary election here.
Please note the 3 write-in candidates:
- James F. Ellison for State Treasurer
- Larry E Marker for U.S. Senate
- Joshua James Ryan Lawrence for State Auditor
Please mark your calendars for our bi-monthly Central Committee meeting at 6 p.m. on April 16 at Open Door Bible Church (2101 Trinity A-2). All registered Republicans are invited to attend.
The LAFRW Freedom Tea will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. on April 25 at Fuller Lodge. This year’s special speaker will be Ramona Goolsby, candidate for NM Secretary of State. Jennifer McKerley is collecting silent auction items. Please contact her at jmckerley@comcast.net if you have items to donate.
See you soon,
Lisa Shin
