NMHM News:
Artists, history lovers, educators, New Mexicans and visitors to Santa Fe are cordially invited to attend “Rio Grande Weaving: Tradition, History, and Continuity” with Irvin Trujillo, in-person at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the New Mexico History Museum (NMHM).
Introduced to weaving at age 10 by his father, Trujillo is a master weaver and award-winning textile artist whose work “combines flawless technique and respect for Hispanic history and culture with innovation in response to contemporary society and his life”.
Through their studio in Chimayó, Centinela Traditional Arts, Trujillo and his wife Lisa strive to preserve traditional weaving styles and techniques, bring innovation to their work, and teach others in the Northern New Mexico community.
During this in-person presentation and conversation, Trujillo will explore the history and styles of Rio Grande weaving, the Trujillo Family’s eight generations of work, and the serious challenges this living heritage of New Mexico is confronting in the 21st century.
