His talk is part of the monthly Authors Speak series coordinated by the Library. It will be held in the Upstairs Rotunda at Mesa, 2400 Central Ave. in Los Alamos.

Light has been teaching spiritual development in various ways for more than 30 years, and has been studying and practicing meditation for more than 40 years. He also teaches backpacking, rock climbing and other outdoor skills. He has written or co-authored books in both of these areas of study: “Final Kindness,” “Exploring the Soul of Taharah,” and “To Midwife a Soul” from his spiritual studies and “Backpacking the Light Way” from his outdoor adventures.

Jewish Rites of Death is an introduction to the inter-world space where death and life meet. The book is full of essays, short stories, poems, personal experiences and photography. Many people have contributed to the book. The photography is courtesy of Thea Rose Light.

The book won a Nautilus Prize for the 2016-17 Season. Nautilus Prizes are awarded for books “that transcend barriers of culture, gender, race, and class, and promote conscious living & green values, spiritual growth, wellness & vitality, and positive social change.”

Light’s talk will be followed by a book signing. The Los Alamos Jewish Center will provide refreshments for the talk.

The Authors Speak Series is a monthly event featuring local and regional authors speaking about their writing on a variety of subjects such as local and state history, travel, outdoor activities, fiction, Native American history and culture, poetry and more. The series is funded by the Friends of the Los Alamos County Library System. The talks are free and begin at 7 p.m., on the fourth Thursday of each month, followed by the opportunity to meet the authors and enjoy refreshments.
