COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County Environmental Services in collaboration with New Mexico Clean and Beautiful invites the public to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony marking the completion of construction of the Reuse Center at Overlook Convenience Center, 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12 at 500 Overlook Road in White Rock. Light refreshments will be served.
The reuse center at Overlook will be a much larger scale reuse area than the reuse center at the Eco Station. Residents are free to come and take items from the Reuse area. If residents would like to leave items at the Reuse area, it will count as one of their 12 annual loads.
Examples of items that are acceptable at the reuse area include unused or new building materials, working appliances (with all the pieces included), and other gently used or well taken care of items.
Items that will not be accepted at the reuse area include large or hazardous items such as mattresses, household hazardous waste (paints, stains, cleaners, pesticides, etc.), clothing or broken items.
If residents have clothing to recycle, there is a Big Brother Big Sister collection box at the Eco Station.
Residents are encouraged to come and take items from the reuse area, as well as drop off items. The reuse center will prevent gently used things from being thrown into the landfill.
