The United Church, especially the children, are joyfully welcoming the Rev. Laura Loving to the ministerial staff. She was recruited specifically to focus on children’s programs due to the growing number of youth in the United Church.

Loving is a United Church of Christ (UCC) minister and has served as a pastor, educator, children’s curriculum writer, retreat leader, author and English teacher throughout her career.

Loving met her spouse, Bill Humphreys, while they were both attending Princeton Theological Seminary. As he served Presbyterian churches in the upper Midwest, she chose to focus on raising their three children. With the children now grown, The Lovings moved to Santa Fe in November 2015 as Bill serves Presbyterian churches in Northern New Mexico. They both work in the Santa Fe public schools as tutors in the AVID program for first generation college bound students.

Though working from home or a coffee shop most of the week, Laura can be found in her office in the Christian Education Building of The United Church on Tuesdays, and wherever there are kids on Sundays at the church.

“I am excited to be working in a community on the top of a plateau, with the town outlining canyons,” Loving said while making friends with a toddler at a nearby table during lunch in a local restaurant.

While being introduced to snow covered neighborhoods, Loving said she was was thrilled to see children at play out in snowy school yards. Trying to find words for her feelings, Loving said, “This is a mystic place to me, filled with real people.”

Loving said she is looking forward to seeing Matilda the Musical, and just attending all events in which our children are involved.

Meet the Rev. Laura Loving at Sunday worship services at 9:30 a.m., followed by Sunday School for everyone at 11 a.m. The United Church of Los Alamos is at 2525 Canyon Road, across from the Nature Center. For more information, visit www.unitedchurchla.org.
