Retired N.M. Sen. DeDe Feldman

AAUW News:

The local chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold its Fall Luncheon 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road, lower entrance.

The event will be catered by Ruby K’s is catering the event, which costs $15 per person.

Following the business meeting and presentation of interest groups, members and guests will find out the inside story of the New Mexico Senate as described by retired Sen.  Dede Feldman. For 16 years Feldman observed the action from a front row seat and fought for her passions, including education. Numerous times her objectives aligned with those of AAUW-NM and they have worked together.

She published her history of those turbulent years this past January, Inside the New Mexico Senate: Boots, Suits and Citizens. One review described it as “brutal, biting and hilarious.”

Feldman will include tips on effective advocacy in New Mexico. On her website she wrote, “Advocates need to know the process, how to present the right information at the right time, how to work with coalitions, appeal to opponents, activate grassroots support, satisfy foundation funders and get the media on their side.”

She will be selling copies of her book immediately following her talk.

AAUW members are encouraged to invite a guest.
