Rescue Therapy Dogs, Animal Advocates To Assemble For Animal Protection Lobby Day At Roundhouse

Santa Fe – Animal Protection Voters (APV) will host Animal Protection Lobby Day, Wednesday, Feb. 22, joined by a troupe of registered therapy dogs offering cuddles and photo opportunities for lawmakers, Roundhouse staff and lobbyists alike.  

More than 150 animal advocates are expected to take part in Animal Lobby Day, calling for the passage of legislation to help animals and people including:

  • Cracking down on horrific animal cruelty and neglect;
  • Securing much-needed funding for low-income spay/neuter services; and
  • Banning senseless coyote killing contests.

APV will hold a 2:30 p.m. press conference in the Roundhouse Rotunda featuring legislators and advocates from all over the state.

APV also will be joined 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in The Halls of History by several registered therapy dogs—including Xena, Rico and Dennis—and their guardians are part of The Animal Connection, a sought-after education program in New Mexico that helps students recognize animals as sentient beings and build empathy for their the students’ peers, families and community. With vast experience in bringing smiles to children’s faces, the therapy dogs hope to provide a furry reprieve or lawmakers, Roundhouse staff and lobbyists from the hectic schedule of a busy leg
