U.S. CONGRESSIONAL News:

SANTA FE – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following video in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

“Hi I’m Congressman Ben Ray Luján. In communities across the country, Americans are coming together to celebrate the enduring contributions of the Hispanic community as we mark the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month.  Every year from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, we take time to reflect on the important role that one of the fastest growing ethnic groups plays in the success of America.

“With a rich culture and long-held traditions that have become part of the fabric of our nation, the Hispanic community has played a key role in American society and continues to be leaders in every facet – from serving in our military to teaching in the classroom and running a small business.

“In New Mexico, the influence from the Hispanic community can be seen from our food to our music and runs as deep as our constitution, which was written in both English and Spanish. Nuestra lengua es una parte importante de nuestra comunidad.

“As the Hispanic community continues to grow, so too will the need to engage and further contribute to the discussions on the policies that impact our future.

“As House Democrats focus on efforts to make a college education more affordable, create jobs through investments in infrastructure and innovation, secure a dignified retirement for older Americans, and fix our broken immigration system, the perspective and experiences of the Hispanic community will enrich these efforts to help hard-working people get ahead and stay ahead.

“This month, I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the heritage and culture of the Hispanic community and reflect on our shared desire to build a brighter future for all people.”
