Rep. Garcia Richard Updates Rotary On Session

‘I feel a little suspended in time,’ Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard told the Rotary Club of Los Alamos during its regular meeting May 2 at the Los Alamos County Golf Course. She explained the regular legislative session is completed but a special session is being  called. Garcia Richard presented a summary of the session and reported on several of the bills she sponsored or carried on the House floor. One bill addresses the transfering of college credits. The bill, which passed and the Govenor signed, amends the Post-Secondary Education Articulation Act to establish and clarify conditions under which students may transfer earned credits in New Mexico colleges and universities. Another bill she sponsored and was passed and signed dealt with expanding the jurisdiction for Municipal Courts for issuing bench warrants. Garcia Richard further reported she was appointed to chair the House Education Committee. It turns out that chairing a committee is a lot more work and less power, Garcia Richard said, but still ‘quite rewarding’. Photo by Kirsten Laskey/ladailypost.com
