NMTLF News:
The New Mexico Trial Lawyers Foundation (NMTLF) is proud to announce that Kathy Love, partner at McGinn, Montoya, Love, Curry & Sievers, PA, has been named the recipient of the 2026 NMTLF Amicus Award. The honor was presented during the NMTLF Annual Amicus Gala held on Friday evening, April 10, at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort.
The Amicus Award is one of the highest honors bestowed by the NMTLF, recognizing an individual whose commitment to the law and tireless work on behalf of the “little guy” and has made a profound impact on the justice system in New Mexico. The winner also embodies the organization’s key values – Justice. Accountability. Access.
“Kathy Love defines what it means to be a trial lawyer champion for those who have been silenced by corporate or governmental power,” said Alexandra Cervantes, NMTLF President. “In 2014, Ms. Love and her firm obtained justice for more than 20 patients whose doctor had received money kickbacks from a pacemaker manufacturer to put pacemakers in patients who didn’t need the pacemaker. This case and the decades of representation that Ms. Love has provided to individuals going up against powerful money interests epitomize what trial lawyers do and what we stand for.”
With a legal career spanning over three decades, Love has established herself as a formidable force in the courtroom and a vital mentor in the legal community. A former New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association President, Love began her career as a public defender, where she developed a lifelong passion for protecting constitutional rights.
Outside of work, Ms. Love’s desire to fight for our community drives her volunteer work. U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich’s video presentation at the event described her work to co-found the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, which now has a staff of almost 20, hundreds of members, a nearly $2 million budget and has protected nearly two million acres of public land. She was President of NARAL Pro-Choice New Mexico and served on the boards of Equal Access for Justice, the New Mexico Innocence and Justice Project, and other charitable and professional groups. When help is needed, she is among the first to step forward. Her work demonstrates the dept of her commitment to helping her community and those around her.
