Regulation And Licensing Department Offers Financial Education Workshops For New Mexico’s Native Communities

NMRLD News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department’s (NMRLD) Financial Institutions Division (FID) extends its financial education workshops, train-the-trainer seminars, and technical assistance services to Native communities for another year.

These services are free of charge and customized and conducted by Vickie K. Oldman, a Diné organizational practitioner, facilitator, and trainer with more than 25 years of expertise in finance, planning, training, and executive coaching to Native and rural communities.

“Our Native communities have had a long history, time immemorial, in managing resources. We need to continue to listen, learn, and reflect on how that has served us today,” Vickie K. Oldman said. “Weaving that wisdom with blended approaches and modalities can only cultivate skills and awareness in how we mange resources.”

FID’s Native outreach program has courses geared toward adults, seniors, and youth, as well as train-the-trainer seminars that can create a beneficial ripple effect by providing the necessary knowledge and resources for participants to extend the outreach to their own communities, programs, and organizations. The workshop allows attendees to explore their financial journey by learning the foundational concepts of money, envisioning their money journey, managing resources, and protecting those resources in the future.

“Consumer protection in financial matters is our priority,” says Mark Sadowski, Director of the Financial Institutions Division. “Empowering people with financial literacy through outreach is a key component of consumer protection, and we want to ensure all New Mexicans have access to those resources.”

Oldman has conducted in-person and virtual presentations in various Pueblos and tribes throughout New Mexico for 12 years. There are two scheduled so far this year, with room for more opportunities.
