LAPS News:

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) for Barranca Mesa Elementary is hosting its second annual Trick-or-Trot 5K Fun Run & Walk Saturday, Oct. 29 at Barranca Mesa Elementary School, 57 Loma del Escolar in Los Alamos.

The 5K starts at 9 a.m., and the 1-miler begins at 10 a.m.

Monsters of all ages and fitness levels are invited to participate.

“Wear your best costume and join in the most fun event of the Halloween season!”

Registration is $35 for teens and adults, and $20 for children 12 and under. Register in advance here before Monday, Oct. 10 to receive a free race t-shirt, but same-day registration is also available.

Packet pickup will be available the morning of the event, beginning at 8 a.m. All proceeds from the event benefit Barranca Mesa Elementary PTO to support its goal of improving the school playground.

The course will begin and finish at the bus loop at Barranca Mesa Elementary. Runners will proceed from the bus loop down Camino Encantado, then back up and head East on Barranca Road. They’ll loop down Los Pueblos and back up Navajo and then return to the school. Runners will be on the sidewalk except for the first stretch of Barranca Road, where there is no sidewalk.

After the race, the community is invited to the “Monster Mash” dance party, also held at Barranca Mesa Elementary. The family-fun event will include popsicles for purchase, dancing, an award ceremony, and prize drawing. Medals will be awarded for the top three finishers in the following categories: Men, Women, Boys, Girls, and Best Costume. The top three fastest boys and girls in the 1-mile race will also receive medals. All racers who finish will be placed into a drawing for exciting prizes.
