RED RIVER News:
RED RIVER — As the motorcycles begin rolling into Red River and the Enchanted Circle region, Town of Red River officials have been working hard getting ready for this weekend.
“Preparations for this event have been on-going since March to assure that everything is in place for visitors and residents to have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Weekend,” Red River Town Marshal James Johnson said.
Johnson, who became Red River’s Town Marshal a couple of years ago, said he feels confident about the cooperation between agencies equating to a safer event for everyone.
“Local and state public safety and emergency response officials have combined efforts to ensure the safety of all event attendees and locals,” Johnson said. “This a great weekend for Red River, so we encourage everybody to have a good time and be safe.”
Each Memorial Day weekend, the Enchanted Circle hosts more than 50,000 motorcyclists, with up to 20,000 in Red River at any given moment. Through combined efforts with multiple law enforcement agencies, Red River hopes to provide an atmosphere where visitors, both on and off motorcycles, can feel safe to enjoy themselves in a relaxing environment.
The current forecast calls for temperatures in the upper 60s all weekend, making a perfect weekend to enjoy the Sangre de Cristo mountains.
“Vendors selling everything from gourmet food to leather and motorcycle apparel to other specialty merchandise set up their booths throughout the whole town,” says Max Khudiakov, Red River Director of Economic Development & Tourism. “Local businesses are ready for this big weekend as well. The Town still has a few vacancies for rooms, but they should be filled up with walk-in traffic.”
Activities for the weekend include multiple live music concerts throughout the town; tattoo, beard and trivia contests; Vitalant’s blood drive as well as veteran-focused activities across the Enchanted Circle communities.
