BUSINESS News:

Do you have a startup? An idea for one? The RDC is sponsoring Startup Santa Fe’s informal “office hours” sessions 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, featuring a rotating group of experts to answer audience questions, brainstorm ideas, and provide priceless advice, information and support to get startups launched and keep it growing.

This is free expert advice focused on audience member’s needs. Held inside the bar and lounge of the Violet Crown cinema, 1606 Alcaldesa St., the atmosphere will be casual and relaxed and stress-free. The conversation will focus on business strategy, plans and models, individual’s value proposition, market analysis and strategy. The first “doctors” holding Office Hours will be Shawn Patrick and Bonn Macy. Between them, they run or advise over a half dozen startups.

Also joining us on Thursday is Mark Johnson, co-founder and CEO of Descartes Labs. Johnson, a serial entrepreneur, has a great track record of translating complex technologies into usable and successful products. Prior to Descartes, he was the CEO at Zite, a personalized news app, which he first sold to CNN in August 2011 and then to Flipboard in March 2014.

Before that, Johnson worked as a product manager at Bing, Powerset (sold to Microsoft), Kosmix (sold to Walmart), SideStep (sold to Kayak) and SAP. He also is an advisor or mentor to a half dozen other companies.
