Rahim AlHaj

CONCERT News:

Rahim AlHaj, composer and two-time Grammy nominee, celebrates the release of “Journey,” his new retrospective CD, with a special concert at The Outpost performance space in Albuquerque Aug. 23.

AlHaj is a virtuoso on the oud, a pear-shaped stringed instrument commonly used in Middle-Eastern music. Construction of the oud is similar to that of the lute. It is considered an ancestor of the guitar.

Special guest musicians include percussionist Issa Malluf, violinist David Felberg (Chatter String Quartet) and others.

Rahim is known for the depth of soul and emotion in his playing and a heartfelt rapport with his audience. His repertoire evokes the experiences of exile and new beginnings, or as stated in the liner notes of his new CD, “speaks directly to the most fundamental human emotions – to love, loneliness, anger, compassion, to the human condition…”
