COMMUNITY News:

The richly detailed art quilts that have hung on the walls of Step Up Gallery will come down on Thursday to make way for the next exhibit. Wednesday is the last day to see the “The Quilt as Art” exhibit, which has attracted visitors from all over New Mexico and neighboring states.

The themes these fiber artists have explored are wide-ranging. Some artworks refer to traditional quilts, such as the log cabin and Sunbonnet Sue quilts, while others have more in common with fine art and contemporary painting.

All of the artists are members of the Northern New Mexico Quilt Guild, which supports quilters through education, community service, fellowship and exhibits.

Step Up Gallery (https://stepupgallery.org) is on the top level of Mesa Public Library, at 2400 Central Ave. The gallery is open the same hours as the library: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and 1-5 p.m., Sunday.
