LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Gene Schmidt accepts Piñón Recognition from New Mexico Lt. Gov. John Sanchez at the Quality New Mexico Performance Excellence Awards Ceremony April 8 at the Isleta Resort.

Piñón recognition, which is based on Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, was presented to the school district for conducting an extensive review of its organizational profile, which includes categories such as leadership systems, strategic planning processes and listening to customer voices.

Los Alamos Public Schools submitted the application in July of 2014. A Quality New Mexico External Review Team visited the district late last year to provide a feedback report to the school district. Information from the External Review, which is framed in a feedback report as Strengths and Opportunities for Improvement, presents a pathway to improve overall performance.

Other groups honored included:

  • Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (Roadrunner);
  • Nuclear Material Control and Accountability Group, LANL (Piñón); and
  • Quality & Performance Assurance Division, LANL (Piñón).
