L.A. Cantina and Pyramid restaurants in Central Park Square are both owned by Mohamed “Zig” Rzig, but based on two totally different cultures.
Pyramid showcases foods from the Mediterranean and other countries. L.A. Cantina is more of an American-style restaurant and has a bar with its own specialty drinks. Rzig and his family came from Tunisia, a country in North Africa and were generous enough to bring their family culture and food to Los Alamos.
This is how they did it. Both cafe designs and models come from the family’s country. From the aesthetic wood interior to the paintings on the walls to the food in the kitchen, everything comes with style and tradition. This certainly holds up to what their goals are for these restaurants.
In speaking with the team, they gave information on how this family wants to show our community what Northern Africa is about. They spoke about how Rzig planned to make a peaceful place for anyone to come and dine with their classic dishes and signature drinks. Speaking of dishes, Rzig specifically imports different kinds of olive oil. Not only do they sell it to customers, but they also use that same olive oil to cook with, it isn’t just for show.
Now it is time to meet the wonderful team that makes the Rzig family’s dream happen. Moraya Gutierrez being there for only one week has become family with the team already. Rasheid Zomnati, a bartender at L.A. Cantina, is very happy to work with the team that is there, it is very familiar coming from India. Kasey Bradford is a bartender and specialist mixer for their special drinks. You can’t forget about trusty robots, they have two robots that are waiters. They sing happy birthday to the customers, bring out the food, and generally make the customers very happy.
