In the 1930s, during the Great Depression, Latter-day Saint communities in Farmington developed projects to produce the necessities of life for people in need, including constructing a storehouse, operating a large farm, and planting tomatoes, beans, corn and wheat. Since then, the diverse congregations of Latter-day Saints in New Mexico have worked to serve the needy and people experiencing poverty in their communities. More than 69,000 Latter-day Saints in nearly 140 congregations call New Mexico home today.
