Public Meeting Notice – Revised Water Supply Plan

COUNTY News:

Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) invite the public to a presentation on its revised Long-Range Water Supply Plan draft.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15 in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave. A question and answer period will follow the presentation. Copies of the draft Plan will be made available Nov. 8 on the DPU website at www.losalamosnm.us/utilities.

DPU contracted with Daniel B. Stephens & Associates, Inc. (DBS&A) for support in revising the Plan. Using the original format and data from the council-adopted 2006 Long-Range Water Supply Plan as a starting point, DBS&A updated the Plan to:

  • Reflect current population and water demand projections,
  • Evaluate potential climate change impacts, and
  • Assess various water supply options, including the timing for development of the County’s San Juan-Chama water rights.

The revised Long-Range Water Supply Plan will be presented to the Board of Public Utilities Nov. 16 and to the Los Alamos County Council Nov. 29. DBS&A and DPU will incorporate appropriate adjustments to the revised Plan before going to the County Council for adoption in January 2017.

The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) operates the county-owned electric, gas, water & wastewater systems under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Utilities. The Board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. and the public is always welcome. The DPU is funded by rates paid for electric, gas, water and wastewater services and auxiliary fees, and has provided the community with these services for more than 40 years.
