From Places & Spaces Los Alamos:
Did you know that our area trail systems are managed by six different jurisdictions? Places & Spaces Los Alamos (PSLA) is proud to announce the launch of the Pajarito Trails Series (PTS) website – www.pajaritotrails.us, a first-of-its-kind digital portal designed to serve as the “front door” for all six of our area’s great trail systems.
While the Pajarito Plateau and Eastern Jemez Mountains boast hundreds of miles of trails managed by six different jurisdictions, navigating the outdoor events and activities has historically been a challenge for residents and visitors alike. The new PTS website (pajaritotrails.us) solves this by acting as a portal, connecting users to the diverse array of events and activities hosted in our outdoors by local organizations, land stewards, and businesses.
“Our trails are a vital community asset, but knowing what is happening has been fragmented across many websites and social media groups,” PSLA’s Kevin Holsapple said. “The PTS website is designed to be a high-functioning utility that simplifies the outdoor experience. Whether you’re looking for a high-intensity mountain bike race, a guided archaeology hike, or a social wellness stroll, you can now find it all in one calendar, then quickly connect to the host organization site for details and sign up if needed.”
Key Features of the PTS Website:
- The PTS Master Calendar: A unified view of area trail and outdoor events and activities categorized into four “vibes”: Adventure, Discovery, Stewardship, and On-the-Trails. You can view upcoming events by “vibe.”
- Direct-Links to Organizers: The site serves as a portal, providing quick links that take users directly to the organizers’ websites for full event details and, if required, registration.
- Trails & Outdoors Newsroom: A focused news feed for outdoor and trail-related stories, press releases, and updates from across the plateau and eastern Jemez.
- Crowdsourced Events and News: A public submission tool allowing any local organization or individual to submit their trail-related events, activities, stories, and news and corrections.
- Map Links: Fast access to official trail maps from all six trail system managers in our area, defined as the Pajarito Plateau and Eastern Jemez Mountains.
The launch of the website is a primary component of the broader PSLA Pajarito Trails Initiative, a coalition-based model aimed at promoting a collective identity for the area’s outdoor experience, increasing public appreciation of our fantastic outdoor setting, and promoting stewardship of our outdoor assets. By providing organized, umbrella information, the initiative seeks to improve access for residents and outdoor-focused visitors.
The community is invited to explore the new utility at pajaritotrails.us. Local organizations with upcoming trail or outdoor events or activities that aren’t already on the calendar are encouraged to use the “Submit” feature to ensure their activities are included.

Meet trail and outdoor experts, learn about resources, gather swag, and get the details on how to use the www.pajaritotrails.us website to plan your outdoor activities.
At 10 a.m., everyone is invited to a community photo-op. We hope for a big group in the photo featuring examples of as many different kinds of outdoor and trail users as we can get to come (with gear and in “costume” – hamming it up is OK). We expect the media to be there and use the photo if it turns out well. Come and see if we can create an iconic community photo together!
At 11 a.m. (no sign-up, just be there), there will be a group hike/walk from Co-op Park to PEEC via the new “Urban Trail”. It is about two miles round-trip on easy terrain. The hike leaders are stopping at the beer garden at Bathtub Row on the way back, and you are welcome to join us.
