Improvements to 20th Street between Central Avenue and Trinity Drive are expected to begin in early July and conclude in late summer.

Los Alamos County Engineering Project Manager Bryan Aragon told the Los Alamos Daily Post today that the project includes new 6-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the street, improved ADA ramps, two crosswalks, planter boxes and new street lights to match those installed recently on Central Avenue.

There will be some trench work to install electrical conduit for the lights and some irrigation installed to water the planter boxes, he said. The improvements also will include removal and replacement of the curb and gutter, new drainage structures and new asphalt pavement.

“There is $375,000 budgeted for the project,” Aragon said. “It’s still in the early design phase but we anticipate the project period will run from July through the end of summer. It will give the street a nice facelift.”

Aragon added that the mailboxes previously located in the parking lot at 20th Street and Trinity Drive will be returned once the new Teen Center project is completed.
