American Center Alex Kirk (211-C-91, agency: Pensack Sports) of Los Alamos, put on an amazing game in the last round for Toyota Alvark, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 37.
The 27-year-old player had a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Fukuoka Rizing (#5, 9-29) 69-59. Toyota Alvark maintains the 3rd position in their group in Japanese B League. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost a few games earlier this season.
Toyota Alvark will need more victories to improve their 26-12 record.
In the team’s last game, Kirk had a remarkable 61.5 percent from 2-point range. It’s his second year at Toyota Alvark and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Kirk averages this season: 16.8ppg and 8.8rpg.
The second best player in last round’s games was 31-year-old Shinnosuke Ohishi (174-PG-87) of San-en. Ohishi had a very good evening with a double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds. Bad luck as San-en was edged by slightly lower-ranked Yokohama BC (#6, 10-28) 83-82. San-en managed to keep the same 5th spot in Central. His team is not often considered as one of the league’s best with a mere 17-21 record. Ohishi is one of the most experienced players at San-en and has a reputation of one of team’s most reliable players.
Third on the list of top players last round was Zimbabwean forward Julian Mavunga (203-PF-90, agency: Pensack Sports) of Kyoto Hannar. (#3).
Mavunga showcased his all-around game by recording 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the last round. He was a key player of Kyoto Hannar., leading his team to a 73-69 win against #2 ranked Kawasaki BT in a game of the week. Kyoto Hannar. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams in Central.
Their record at this point is 20 victories and 17 lost games. Mavunga has a very solid season. In 30 games in Japan he scored 20.3ppg. He also has 8.9rpg, 8.8apg and FGP: 54.3 percent.
