COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Community Services Department has announced that the PiƱon Splash Pad opens to the public at 1 p.m. today on Sherwood Boulevard in White Rock.

The PiƱon Splash Pad project was one of several projects related to the Recreation Capital Outlay, approved by County Council in 2017. Construction began on the $827,800 project during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

This new amenity in the community was designed by Surroundings Studio, constructed by Los Alamos Landscaping and More, and completed on time.

The splash pad features a ā€œFlow Throughā€ water system, which is designed to utilize municipal tap water without the need of additional chemicals or treatments.

A small ribbon cutting ceremony took place earlier today at which County Council Chair Randall Ryti said, ā€œThe new splash pad will provide a space for children to play in the water features while parents relax in the shaded spaces during our warmer months. The space is a part of the PiƱon Park (Rocket Park) and is also close to the Library, Youth Activity Center, restaurants, trails, and other amenities with nearby parking conveniently located right off Sherwood Boulevard.ā€

A grand opening for the PiƱon Splash Pad is being planned for the community and will be announced later.

The Splash Pad is operational 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and is scheduled to be open through Labor Day weekend in September.

Adult supervision is recommended for the Splash Pad, as this is an unsupervised facility. Athletic or similar equipment is not allowed. Animals are prohibited and those using the facility are not to climb on the water features.

The County reminds visitors to play safely, have fun and help keep the PiƱon Splash Pad clean and in good condition.
