Photograph Night Sky At Jemez Historic Site Astronomy Programs Oct. 18

NMHS News:

Join special guest, photographer Joey Sandoval from Albuquerque, for two photography workshop opportunities during Jemez Historic Site’s astronomy programs Saturday, Oct. 18.

During the “Looking to the Skies” program at 11 a.m., join photographer Joey Sandoval from Albuquerque, for a photography workshop at Jemez Historic Site. He will teach participants the basics of DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras and cellphone photography (Android and iOS). The focus will be on how to take nighttime photos of the sky and functions for exposure and composition, rule of thirds, focal points, and exposure for effect.

Join the “Stargazing at Gisewa” program later that evening at 8 p.m. where Sandoval will continue with nighttime photography lessons using both DSLR and cellphone cameras. The Albuquerque Astronomical Society (TAAS) will be set up throughout the site with telescopes for nighttime sky viewing. Pueblo food and art vendors will sell their goods at the event.

These family-friendly weekend activities teach visitors about astronomy through contemporary and Indigenous perspectives while offering an opportunity to view the sun, stars, and constellations. Looking to the Skies is included with admission of $7. Stargazing at Gisewa is $10 for adults. Purchase tickets online. Both programs are free to children 16 years and younger, Tribal members, NM disabled veterans, NM foster families, Friends of Coronado & Jemez members, and MNMF members.
