Pete and Stevie Nicks, a neutered male and spayed female 7-year-old Chihuahua crosses transferred to Los Alamos when the shelter in Taos had to lay off 17 employees due to insufficient funding. Both dogs are good with quiet adults and very gentle, quiet, older children. Both ignored the cats when given a tour of the cat room.
For their safety, they should not be left alone with larger dogs, whose play can become unintentionally rough.
The Los Alamos Animal Shelter at 226 East Road, 505.662.8179, has a great selection of adoptable pets; see the Petfinder website for photos here. All adoptable pets are micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, and have up-to-date on vaccinations.

Shelter hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays.
