When June arrived, she was a shadow of the dog she was meant to be—rescued from a horse trailer crammed with 16 other dogs, including her own pups, hungry, scared, and unsure if humans could be trusted. But even then, she showed glimmers of hope, accepting food with quiet gratitude. Now, after our staff has poured love into her, she’s overflowing with affection and light-hearted joy. This 1.5yo anatolian/pyr mix has blossomed, stealing the hearts of everyone at the shelter with her transformation. She’s learned the bliss of head rubs, full-body scritches, and the simple magic of cheese and turkey treats. June is deeply loving, and eager to trust those who show her kindness. June is still finding her way, preferring male dog companions and needing a patient adopter who understands that trust, for her, can be a slow and beautiful thing. But for the person willing to give her that chance? She’ll give back a love deeper than words. It’s now June’s time to bloom! Adopt her from the shelter: spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and with six months of free heartworm prevention. Española Humane is open to walk-in adopters 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday at 108 Hamm Parkway in Española. Visit www.espanolahumane.org. Courtesy/EH
Miss Maggie is a calico with a heart as colorful as her coat! Like a tiny patchwork quilt of autumn leaves, spiced chai, and warm sunsets, Maggie is a vision of calico charm. At five years old, this gentle girl is looking for a patient and loving home where she can truly shine. Maggie’s journey began as a stray, but a kind-hearted Good Samaritan took her in and showed her the first glimpses of love. Maggie tried her best to befriend the resident cats, but they weren’t quite ready for a new friend. Still, Maggie remained as graceful as ever—never pushy, never unkind, just a little unsure of where she fit in. She carries a tiny secret—a harmless umbilical hernia—but it’s nothing a quick visit to our clinic can’t fix. As for dogs, she hasn’t met any here, but with the right introduction, she might just surprise you. With patience, love, and a cozy spot by a sunny window, Maggie is sure to blossom into a devoted companion. This five-year-old 11lb kitty with a coat of many colors is just waiting for the right person to see the beauty not only on the outside but on the inside too!
