Laural Hardin stopped by the Los Alamos Daily Post Monday to share the news that after seven successful years’ operating Petree Garden Center & Florist, she feels the calling for a new challenge and has decided to offer her business for sale.
“It’s important for the reader to understand this is not a ‘have to’ sell, this is not a ‘fire sell’ … it’s a ‘want to’ sell because I’d like to pursue other endeavors. I’ve spent the last seven years creating a profitable business … I’ve done all the hard parts … I’ve created and oasis of a full service garden shop out of a parking lot and created a beautiful full service florist shop and a beautiful gift shop.”
Hardin said the vision really is now that somebody else with energy and excitement would approach her and say ‘hey what’s this all about?’.
“It’s inventory, it’s location, it’s clientele and it’s more than 200 vendors and suppliers,” she said. “It’s profitable … it’s for sale … we are not closing. I want to be available to help with the transition to have as little disruption to the community as possible.”
She explained that she doesn’t take it lightly that her business has a true fan base of supporters who care about her and her crew. During COVID some of those supporters were worried about the business and sent her $10 gifts through the mail.
“We have something beautiful and loved by the community and I am sensitive to those who may worry, ‘Oh no not another one closing’, but it’s not like that,” Hardin said. “It’s a beautiful opportunity for someone to come in and take advantage of a staff that is incredibly competent and knows what they are doing. It would be really sad for me personally if Los Alamos lost this business.”

Petree Garden Center & Florist is located at 2470 East Road and is fully stocked with flowers, perennials, trees, shrubs and everything else one would expect at a garden center … that includes soils and amendments, ceramics, fountains, statuary and a full line of gift items such as cards, bird houses and garden art. Her gift lines include handmade items purchased directly from the makers, jewelry and accessories, fun fashion sox and indulgent handcrafted bath products. There is also a full offering of quality teas, mugs, greeting cards and chocolates, all made by US artisans. And also gift packaging.
Petree Garden Center & Florist is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday as well as 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Petree Garden Center & Florist is closed Monday.
