LALO News:
The show Manhattan has been broadcast on WGN America for three weeks now. Manhattan portrays life in Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project.
If anyone caught the second episode, there was a scene where townspeople attended a play-one of many activities used for entertainment during wartime. There were actually performing arts groups during that time, and one of them was Los Alamos Light Opera (LALO).
LALO was founded in 1943 by Los Alamos theatre aficionados. LALO welcomed anyone interested in all aspects of theatre: singing, acting, makeup, set construction, costumes and more. Their first show, HMS Pinafore, was performed in 1948Fast forward to the present, and LALO is still going strong. The 2013 production of Drood welcomed new performers and veterans alike.
Now, LALO needs your help! Costs to produce musicals continue to rise, while attendance at performing arts events throughout the country continue to decline. In order to continue providing Los Alamos with wonderful live entertainment, LALO presents to you: Broadway on the Hill.
Broadway on the Hill is a Broadway variety show and fundraiser. Presented in a concert style, participants have chosen their favorite songs to perform. The show is broken up into two parts: the first includes songs from shows LALO has performed in the past. Many will remember LALO’s productions of favorites like Cabaret, Annie, South Pacific, and Guys and Dolls. The second part consists of songs from shows LALO would love to perform if given the chance. These shows include Spamalot, Phantom of the Opera, Les MIserables, and Wicked. This show is sure to have a song that is one of your favorites!
In addition to wonderful performances, LALO has also put together a raffle to take place during the event. Individuals from Los Alamos have come together and donated items for the raffle, including themed gift baskets, handmade clothing items, original artwork, pilates sessions, and the grand prize: two orchestra center seats to the musical Wicked at Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque.
Broadway on the Hill plays for one weekend only! Come out for a night of wonderful Broadway music, a fun raffle, refreshments, and show your support for Los Alamos performing arts.
