PEEC To Host Enchanting Evening ‘Poetry Under The Stars’ With New Mexico Poet Laureate Lauren Camp July 16

The community is invited to join PEEC for an enchanting evening, “Poetry Under the Stars” with New Mexico Poet Laureate Lauren Camp at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the Los Alamos Nature Center as part of the exciting ScienceFest 2024 celebration powered by Los Alamos Mainstreet.

Prepare for an evening that seamlessly blends the magic of poetry with the awe-inspiring wonders of the cosmos. Camp will grace the stage with readings from her latest book, In Old Sky, a work inspired by her time as Astronomer-in-Residence at Grand Canyon National Park. Her poetry, rich with celestial imagery and profound reflections, will be accompanied by a captivating planetarium show, featuring a stunning visual display of planets, stars, and celestial marvels.

Following this poetic journey and mesmerizing star show, participants will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the New Mexico Epic Poem Project, adding their voices to this special community endeavor. This is a chance to be part of a living, evolving piece of New Mexico’s literary and cultural heritage. This event is $10 per person.

About Lauren Camp:

Lauren Camp, the current New Mexico Poet Laureate, is the author of eight acclaimed books of poetry, including her most recent work, In Old Sky (Grand Canyon Conservancy, 2024). A former Astronomer-in-Residence at Grand Canyon National Park, Camp’s accolades include the Dorset Prize, finalist commendations for the Arab American Book Award and Adrienne Rich Award, and fellowships from the Academy of American Poets and Black Earth Institute. Her poems have been translated into multiple languages, including Mandarin, Turkish, Spanish, French, and Arabic. More about her work can be found at www.laurencamp.com.
