PEEC News:

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) needs volunteers. Now that the Los Alamos Nature Center has reopened, PEEC is specifically looking for docents to volunteer at the nature center’s welcome desk.

“PEEC depends on quality volunteers in our community like YOU!” Tyson said.

She explained that some of the reasons that existing volunteers enjoy working for PEEC include making a difference in the community, having meaningful and interesting conversations with guests, feeling joy while watching families explore the nature center and more.

The docent’s primary responsibility is to create an inviting and welcoming nature center experience that connects visitors and shoppers to the nature of the Pajarito Plateau. This volunteer position also includes customer service, gift shop sales, helping with opening and closing procedures and more.

Docents generally work for two-hour shifts during the nature center’s open hours. PEEC is specifically looking for docents available to work Wednesday mornings or anytime on Thursdays.

Volunteer docents should have a desire to connect with people from our community and surrounding areas, an interest in learning more about nature on the Pajarito Plateau, an ability to use a computer and willingness to learn the cash register and the availability to work a minimum of four hours per month.

To learn more about this position or to volunteer, contact PEEC’s Visitor Services Manager Christa Tyson at visitorservices@peecnature.org.
